Kidzania Manila, Philippines
Kidzania is a world‐renowned name in the edutainment industry. Originally named ‘La Ciudad de los Niños’ [The Kids’ City], Kidzania has 27 facilities all over the world, making learning a fun activity for kids from ages 1 to 14. It is a kid‐sized city providing children with opportunities to learn and explore various role playing activities.
Last year, another Kidzania branch was opened in Dallas, USA. The city has numerous establishments designed to encourage learning and independence through play within a safe environment. Themebuilders is proud to have worked with the team that built Kidzania’s awe‐inspiring mini city in the Philippines.
Setting a High Standard on Edutainment
Learning through role-play is Kidzania’s primary concept. This play city offers both entertainment and learning, banking on the natural desire of children to create.

In the role-play facilities, kids learn about different careers that interest them. The metropolis is made up of establishments; a hospital, theater, police station, fire station, and salon, to name a few.

It also contributes to the child’s understanding of the economy. Kidzania has its own currency called kidZo, which the children can use to purchase goods, donate, and even pay taxes!
Building Big-Sized Fun for a Kid-Sized City
With Kidzania’s unique concept, Themebuilders gladly took part in the project. Everything, even to the last brick, has been scaled down to kid-size – all while keeping safety as the main consideration. Anyone taking a walk through the streets of Kidzania Manila will note the realism that Themebuilders has put into each detail of the theming.
If you take a look at the sky ceiling, this hand painting created by Themebuilders provides the illusion of being outdoors at dusk. Covering large columns are our tree claddings, which have fire-retardant leaves imported from the US. Following the direction of the Kidzania governor, these trees have a localized look. We sent our team to find and get real textures of locally endemic trees by creating a mold. Rest assured–no trees were harmed in making these claddings.
Aside from the column claddings, the Shopping Alley, Theatre, and Bank also have a uniquely local Filipino look. Patterned after the Lopez ancestral house in Jaro, Iloilo is Kidzania Manila’s theater.
Introducing Themebuilders’ Own Material: Polyte™
For more than 90 facades, our craftsmen used Polyte™ – our fire-resistant and innovative construction material which is perfect for indoor theming. As it is considered easy to install and is lightweight compared to other materials, Polyte™ is ideal for indoor themed facades like in Kidzania. Once the installation is done, there is minimal clean-up on site.
Compared with the usual GFRC, our material is easier to manipulate and faster to work with. It can be removed from its mold within a short amount of time, which results in faster production time. Like fiberglass or polyester resin, it can also mimic the details of different textures like rock, brick, and wood. It doesn’t warp nor shrink. And good news: maintenance of our products is quite simple – a few wipes with a dry or slightly moist rag and you’re done!
